Review guidelines

Last updated 29 September 2026

The short version

  • Review businesses you've actually hired, honestly.
  • Good and bad reviews are both welcome.
  • We never remove a review because it's negative, and paying for Verified doesn't change that.

1. Who can review

Anyone with an account can review a business they've hired or bought from. One review per business. If your experience changes, edit your review or contact us.

You can't review a business you own, work for or compete with, or one owned by a close friend or family member.

2. What belongs in a review

Please do: say what job they did and when, and mention the price, timing, clean-up and whether you'd hire them again.

Please don't: post a review you were paid or rewarded for; include phone numbers, addresses or other private details; use threats, slurs or hateful language.

Your review shows your first name, last initial and, if you give it, your town ("Dana R., Homeowner in Crofton"). That's how neighbours know it's local.

3. What we remove

Reviews go live straight away. We may remove a review, or ask you to edit it, if it's fake or written with a conflict of interest; paid for or rewarded; about a different business or not based on a real job; contains private information, threats, harassment or hate speech; or is spam. If we remove yours, we'll email you to say why.

4. What we never do

Remove or hide a review because it's negative. Let a business pay to remove, hide or reorder reviews. Edit the words of your review.

Businesses must not offer anything for a review, or ask only happy customers. If we find that, we may mark the listing or remove the reviews involved.

5. Owner replies

Owners can post one public reply to each review. Replies follow the same rules.

6. Questions and answers

Anyone signed in can ask a business a question on its page. The owner and other homeowners can answer, and answers from the owner are labelled "Business".

7. Reporting a review

Owners can report a review from My business. Anyone else can contact us with a link to it. We check every report against these guidelines, usually within 2 business days.
